Editorial Review:
Amazon.co.uk Review:
Though it bears little resemblance to the celebrated 1969 original starring Michael Caine, this 2003 remake of The Italian Job stands on its own as a caper comedy that's well above average. The title's a misnomer--this time it's actually a Los Angeles job--but the action's just as exciting as it propels a breezy tale of honour and dishonour among competing thieves. Inheriting Caine's role as ace heist-planner Charlie Croker, Mark Wahlberg plays straight-man to a well-cast team of accomplices, including Mos Def, Jason Statham and scene-stealer Seth Green in a variation of the role originally played by Noel Coward. As the daughter of Croker's ill-fated mentor (Donald Sutherland), Charlise Theron is recruited to double-cross a double-crosser (Edward Norton in oily villain mode), and once again, speedily versatile Mini Coopers (this time, the modern BMW versions) play a pivotal role in director F Gary Gray's exhilarating car-chase climax. It's perhaps the greatest product placement in movie history, and just as fun the second time around. --Jeff Shannon

- Not worth watching just for the Donald Sutherland cameoIn fact not worth watching at all. Maybe I wouldn't have hated it quite as much if they hadn't called it "The Italian Job", because it is an eviscerated version of the original - all the guts are gone. Even the cars aren't believable as getaway vehicles, they should have seen if Fiat's offer to the original was still open and used Cinquecentos. If you loved the original DO NOT WATCH THIS or you will end up stealing a van, putting the DVD in it and blowing more than the bloody doors off in your back ... Read More

- Really really great filmHad to have this together with original, how different but how perfect they both are

- Italian StyleA lot of films are described (or describe themselves) as slick, stylish and cool, but this one is the blueprint.
The Italian Job is a lively crime caper, which is great to look at from start to finish. The engaging plot has a few twists and spanks along at a fair pace, with a pumping soundtrack to keep the tempo up. There is, of course, very little relation to the original film, but that is no great loss in my opinion.
The only real acting is done by Charlize Theron, who is terrific as usual, ... Read More

- A film worth watchingFor all the fans of the original Italian job who think that this isn't going to be very good. I assure you that you are wrong. When i first saw this version i was skeptical because i believed that it was just a re-run of the original, but when you watch it, it is a completely different film. The main links between the old and new version is that they both have mini's and in the new one it makes a reference it 'do it like the italian job'.
I now love both films because you can't make a straight comparison ... Read More
