Rating: - Sentimental and rather silly... not fantastic
I'm a big fan of these Marvel movies: they are a great escape, but this one is less than fantastic. Ok, the special effects are great, no question, but did they have to pander so much to the female audience? Marvel is all about dark, ambiguous characters not soppy girls getting married on Manhattan rooftops. And when the admittedly gorgeous Jessica Alba is killed at the denouement we know exactly what is going to happen next... although some explanation of how it was achieved would have been appreciated. ... Rating: - It's a Stuffing Cloud!
Don't get me wrong, This film is a big bundle of fun, enough jokes for the kiddies to enjoy, enough nods to keep comic fanboys like myself happy. All the roles are well suited, apart from Jessica Alba, playing a part that any one could play.
Effects are fantasic, pardon the pun, and going against other superhero movies it isn't dark or gritty, but shiny and bold, with a family at the heart.
Well worth it, even if just for the Human Torch and Silver Surfer scenes.
